How to Play Air Hockey

  • Grip the Pusher: Hold the pusher behind the knob with your fingertips for better wrist mobility, allowing you to move it swiftly around the table.
  • Defend Your Goal: Position your pusher about 20 cm from the goal. Make slight left and right movements to block straight shots. For bank shots, pull back quickly to the corners, known as the “triangle defense.”
  • Master the Drifts: Use different puck trajectories, such as the “center,” “diamond,” “diagonal,” and “L” drifts, to throw off your opponent’s timing.
  • Delivering Shots: Vary your shots by hitting the puck at different points on the mallet to create deceptive directions and confuse your opponent.

History of Air Hockey

Air hockey was invented in 1969 by a team of engineers from Brunswick Billiards. The initial idea was to create a frictionless game surface, which eventually led to the development of a game inspired by ice hockey. The game gained popularity globally after its revival by Bob Lemieux, who added innovative features such as slit goals with photodetectors. Today, air hockey remains a favorite in arcades, sports bars, and homes around the world.
